Celebrant Sharyn Meldrum juggles multiple roles during her working week, serving as a Medical Secretary, a Funeral Celebrant, and an End of Life Doula. She also operates her business, Oyster Soiree, where she works as an Oyster Shucker. As a Funeral Celebrant, Sharyn infuses ceremonies with joy and significance, reflecting her passion for supporting individuals during life’s most profound moments, including death and end-of-life transitions.
Sharyn is a proud mother to her two adult sons, Cody and Sam. She also assumes the role of Kahu, a Hawaiian term for guardian or caretaker, towards her spirited Pomeranian/Shi Tzu dog, Bella. She resides with her loving partner, Steve, between Newhaven and the Mornington Peninsula.
With over two decades of experience as an Operating Theatre Technician, Sharyn holds qualifications in Beauty Therapy, Massage Therapy, and Sports Training. Following a challenging diagnosis of Stage 3 Breast Cancer in 2021, accompanied by a subsequent back injury, Sharyn reevaluated her career aspirations. This prompted her to embrace her studies in becoming a Celebrant and an End of Life Doula, and she is currently pursuing training to become a Chaplain.
I have known Sharyn for more the 20 years in a professional capacity working at hospitals on the Mornington Peninsula.
She was also a carer for my parents for over 2 years. She showed unbelievable care, support and concern for them, often going above and beyond. I
have no doubts in recommending her in any way in a caring capacity.

An end-of-life doula provides compassionate, non-medical support to individuals and families before, during, and after death.
I offer a calm, reassuring presence and help make the end-of-life experience more personal, understandable, and aligned with your wishes.
Support can include:
• Listening and emotional companionship • Guidance with end-of-life planning
• Help identifying wishes, values, and priorities
• Support for family members and caregivers
• Assistance with creating meaningful rituals
• Vigil support and companionship
• Legacy and life-review projects
• Grief and bereavement support
• Practical resources and referrals
End-of-life care is about more than medical treatment.
It is also about comfort, connection, dignity, meaning, and honouring what matters most.
Support from an End-of-Life Doula may help you:
*Feel more prepared and less overwhelmed
*Communicate openly with loved ones
*Clarify personal wishes and priorities
*Create opportunities for connection and closure.
*Make the experience more peaceful and meaningful
*Receive compassionate support without judgment.
You do not need to have all the answers.
A conversation can be the first step.
Planning ahead can bring comfort, clarity, and peace of mind—for you and the people you love. Whether you are preparing for death, supporting someone who is dying, or grieving a loss, you do not have to navigate this experience alone with the help of Sharyn.
A Gentle, Personal Approach
Every person and family has different needs, beliefs, wishes, and traditions. My role as a funeral celebrant, and as a Death Doula or End of Life Doula, is to offer compassionate, non-medical support while ensuring you feel informed, heard, and supported. Together, we can create space for meaningful conversations, practical preparation, and emotional care.
Support may be offered in the home, hospital, hospice setting, or virtually, depending on your needs and location, complementing the ceremony services you may require.

Being a Funeral Celebrant is a role I hold with deep respect and responsibility.
In those final moments of farewell, the words spoken and stories shared become a person’s lasting footprint on this Earth — a meaningful imprint left for those who loved them.
It is about honouring a unique life with care, truth and dignity.
Every ceremony is shaped by the individual at its heart, through gentle conversations with family and friends, I gather the threads of a life and weave them into a personal tribute that feels authentic and true.
To be trusted with this significant moment is a privilege I never take lightly.
My role is to guide the ceremony with calm presence and sensitivity, ensuring it serves both the memory of the person being honoured and the hearts of those saying goodbye.
